As Community Housing Industry Association of NSW (CHIA NSW), we advocate for a housing system that changes lives. CHIA NSW is the peak industry body for NSW community housing and we represent 94 members who own, manage and maintain more than 54,000 homes for low-income NSW families.
Our members are non-profit community housing providers. Community housing providers (CHPs) change lives by building and providing safe, secure and affordable social housing for families on lower incomes. These homes are purpose built as long-term rentals to ensure the social stability of their tenants.
Our industry has grown rapidly and in the last decade has invested over $2 billion to deliver more than 5,800 new homes. Read more in our Community Snapshot report.
CHIA NSW champions policies and programs that will grow our members’ capacities to provide more homes to those that need them most.

Reconciliation Action Plan
CHIA NSW’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (2023-25) was developed in consultation with our Board, staff, and partner organisations. It is our second plan to be endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.
This plan builds on the achievements of our inaugural Reflect RAP (2021-22), and continues our journey toward Reconciliation, which began nearly 20 years ago when the organisation was known as the NSW Federation of Housing Associations.
Over the next two years, CHIA NSW’s Innovate RAP will focus on engaging more staff and stakeholders in reconciliation, strengthening our partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, and delivering new initiatives for members that contribute to better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples residing in community housing.
