Confront the Crisis in Western Sydney forum

February 22, 2023 @ 10:00 am 11:00 am

Join us for the Confront the Crisis in Western Sydney forum, to call on our leaders to confront the housing crisis in our region.

There’s no question we are in the midst of a housing crisis.

Across Western Sydney, there are 55,000 families and individuals living in housing crisis and more than 17,000 on the social housing waitlist. Rents are skyrocketing, and vacancy rates are at a record-low – forcing every day families into housing stress, or even homelessness.

With a State Election just around the corner, now is the perfect time to put pressure on our state leaders to act. They are listening more carefully than ever to what people in our state want.

That’s why Evolve Housing, Business Western Sydney and the Confront the Crisis campaign are inviting you to be part of the Confront the Crisis in Western Sydney forum.

We’ll hear from people who are facing the housing emergency, as well as experts in the housing and business sectors. We’ve also invited local MPs and candidates in the upcoming election to be part of it, to hear first-hand how their communities are being impacted.

Will you join us for this important forum, and join us calling on each and every State MP, each and every party, to Confront the Crisis?

Housing for All NSW Election Town Hall Event

February 16, 2023 @ 1:00 pm 3:00 pm

Join us for Housing for All, a pre-election summit on ending homelessness and confronting the housing crisis in NSW, hosted by Joe Hildebrand.

There are more than 57,000 individuals and families on the NSW social housing waiting list in NSW. Many of those people will wait over 10 years to access a safe place to call home.

Homelessness in NSW continues to increase, while the supply of available housing people can afford diminishes, and access to support is strained. This event will outline our shared challenges, present solutions across industries and provide an opportunity to hear from our political leaders to outline their commitments for change.

This free event will take place during the NSW state election campaign, and is a chance for our political leaders, the sector, and the community to take another step towards a future where everyone in NSW has a safe place to call home.

The event will be MC’d by Joe Hildebrand, Australian Journalist who will be joined by a panel of speakers including Hal Pawson, City Futures Research Centre UNSW, Lord Mayor Clover Moore, The Hon Rose Jackson, Jenny Leong MP, Alex Greenwich MP, Adina Cirson, The Property Council, Mark Degotardi, Community Housing Industry Association NSW and Trina Jones, Homelessness NSW.

If you care about homelessness and ensuring people can access safe and affordable housing, join us and add your support to making positive change in NSW. ‘Confront the Crisis’ Campaign Launch

November 16, 2022 @ 1:30 pm 2:30 pm

Join us for the launch of the Confront the Crisis campaign, hosted by journalist Sarah Harris.

NSW is in the midst of a housing crisis.

With interest rates and rental prices rising, more people are struggling to keep a roof over their heads.

Vacancy rates have plummeted across the State – in many areas, rental housing is neither affordable or available.

There are 50,000 families and individuals on the social housing waitlist.

The housing market is broken, with supply falling well short of housing demand.

And the people on low to moderate incomes are most affected by these changes.

They are pensioners, young people, women and children, and the unwell.

They are also the workers that keep our communities running – teachers, nurses, cleaners and many more.

That’s why we’re launching a campaign calling on each and every State MP, each and every party, to Confront the Crisis.

The campaign will put pressure on all parties to commit to real, long-term investment in community housing ahead of the NSW State Election.

Hosted by journalist Sarah Harris, who grew up in social housing, you’ll hear from:

  • A panel of people with first-hand experience of the housing crisis who are on the social housing waitlist, or now living in community housing
  • Mark Degotardi, CEO of Community Housing Industry Association NSW (CHIA NSW)
  • More speakers to be announced!

Register now to be part of it. We’ll send you an email with details on how to join the online event after you register.
