Welcome to our February 2020 edition of Housing Matters.

2020 is shaping as an important year for the community housing sector.  Over the last 5 years, we have grown significantly, providing more affordable and secure rental homes for low-income families and individuals across NSW.  Our challenge is to continue to grow – too many people are in housing stress or experiencing homelessness so our sector will continue to look for ways to alleviate housing stress for more families.  There is a role for Governments at all levels, for the community housing sector, the private sector and the financial sector to work together to provide more innovative solutions to the enduring challenge of meeting unmet housing need.

Housing Matters- April 2019

The annual Anglicare Rental Affordability Snapshot has revealed an alarming picture of Australia’s private rental market, and the results for people on low incomes and income support are dire.
Contrary to what some commentators have been expressing the recent downturn in house prices, particularly in major metropolitan areas of NSW, has not led to an increase in the amount of affordable rental housing available.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Wendy Hayhurst for all of her incredible hard work over the past four years as the CEO of CHIA NSW. One of Wendy’s great successes has been to raise the profile of the community housing industry in NSW, and to make investing in more social and affordable housing an issue that is now much higher up government and agency agendas.
